● Purpose

The program is based on PKU’s solid foundation of pure mathematics and relies on the advantages of PKU’s computational and applied mathematics. By combining resources, attracting excellent students, and raising the admission standard, the selectees are provided with favorable conditions for learning, generous scholarship, exclusive development opportunities, and instruction of postdoctoral scholars in related fields. The program aims to train high-quality doctors with broad research vision, strong ability of creative thinking, sound mathematical foundation, and high capacity of computing, and to build a high-end doctoral education platform in computational and applied mathematics. We endeavor to make a giant leap forward in doctoral education quality and to create academic leaders in the future in 5 to 10 years.

A special committee is set up to design and implement the program. The work includes selection, cultivation, and examination.

● Selection

This program only accepts the expert recommendation and refusesindividual application. The recommended students are mostly in their first year of Ph.D. program. The committee examines the candidates and selects no more than 4 students every year.

● Cultivation

Favorable conditions for learning: office and office equipment; reduction of teaching assistant task; cutting-edge courses and lectures by international experts; instruction of high-quality postdoctoral scholar in related fields

Generous scholarship: a scholarship worth RMB 100,000 each year for each selected student

Exclusive development opportunities: funds students in the program for international communication and learning; recommends doctoral graduates for jobs in scientific institutions
